The Philippine President’s Office on Friday said it has identified one of the main drugs to combat a wave of fake drugs in the country’s health-care sector.
Ranbaxy, a company that develops and manufactures pharmaceuticals, said the group of drugs, which has a market share of more than 50% of the Philippine population, include sildenafil (generic name of Viagra), tadalafil (generic name of Cialis) and vardenafil (generic name of Levitra) - which are used to treat erectile dysfunction. It also has a large share of the drugs used to treat pulmonary hypertension, diabetes and high blood pressure.
“It is our hope that these drugs are the cornerstone of our national strategy,” the Office on Drugs and Therapeutics said in a statement.
The group of drugs, which is under the Ministry of Health, has been on an interim basis since it was launched in 2013.
Its main purpose is to provide drugs to combat a growing number of diseases, including Alzheimer’s, cancer and heart disease, and also promote growth in the unborn. It was originally formed in 1989. It is now the government-run market leader in pharmaceuticals, and has a long-standing market presence in the United States.
“We look forward to working with the government to provide drugs to help people combat these diseases, and we look forward to working with the president to provide drugs to help people to live healthier lives,” the Office on Drugs and Therapeutics said.
The Ministry of Health is expected to announce the results of its latest drug trials in the Philippines between September 2017 and January 2018, which have shown the benefits of the drugs to combat diabetes, stroke, and cardiovascular diseases. The medicines are also being studied in other countries, including the United States, as well as in other developed markets.
According to the ministry, some of the drugs include sildenafil (Viagra), tadalafil (Cialis) and vardenafil (Levitra), which are used to treat erectile dysfunction.
The ministry also said that it is working with the health authorities in various countries to determine the most appropriate drug for each patient.
“We are working closely with the health authorities to determine the best medicine for each patient based on our findings,” the ministry said in the statement. It added that the Ministry had also provided information and recommendations to other health-care organizations.
The drugs to treat erectile dysfunction were launched by Pfizer, the pharmaceutical company that developed and manufactures the medicines. The government has been accused of trying to block the sale of drugs to the public.

TadalafilLevitraSildenafilWhether you can take Tadalafil at the same time as your other medications will depend on which medications you are taking.
You are required to complete a short medical consultation questionnaire that asks for any medications that you are prescribed from your GP and will indicate the medications that can’t be taken alongside Tadalafil.
There are several medicines which should not be taken concurrently with Tadalafil. Medicines which can have potentially serious interactions with Tadalafil include :-
• Any alpha-blocker medicines e.g. doxazosin (Cardura), alfuzosin (Xatral), tamsulosin, terazosin, or Flomax, that you can buy in the pharmacy. (These medicines may be used to treat prostate problems or high blood pressure).
• Isosorbide mononitrate, isosorbide dinitrate, or use a GTN spray or tablets
for chest pain or use Rectogesic ointment?
• Nicorandil (Ikorel), used to treat angina
• Cimetidine, used to treat stomach or duodenal (peptic) ulcers
• Theophylline, used to treat asthma
• Antibiotics:- Clarithromycin, Erythromycin and Telithromycin
• Anti-fungals such as itraconazole and ketoconazole

()In the United States, prescriptions can be costly, so it’s tempting to shop elsewhere—like less-expensive countries. Americans have long been lured south of the border with the promise of cheaper Viagra in Mexico, but that’s a dangerous game that could pose serious health and legal risks.
Medical tourism has a long list of risks that brings up serious concerns about health, safety, and legality. The lower price tag may be tempting, but it’s not worth the cost savings.
Your health should be your number one concern, always. In the United States, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) provides oversight and regulates medications to keep you safe. This organization has no jurisdiction in Mexico, so you can’t be completely sure what you’re taking when you shop for drugs internationally.
Counterfeit and substandard medications are common in Mexico. In fact, conducted a recent study and found that more than two-thirds of pharmacies in Mexican tourist towns sell controlled substances without a prescription, and a quarter of the drugs are counterfeit.
Many people assume that buying Viagra in Mexico is safe because it’s sold openly in pharmacies, but there’s no guarantee that what you’re getting is genuine.
Even if the medication looks legit, the actual contents, dosage, storage, and effectiveness of drugs are unregulated and could be dangerous.
There’s a market for mass-producing cheap medications and selling them to Americans who don’t want to pay full price. But without regulation, these unsuspecting shoppers might have no idea what they’re buying.
Quality and safety are not important to drug counterfeiters. These manufacturers use cheap, untested ingredients that look real but leave a lot of important questions unanswered.
Counterfeit Viagra is distributed through informal supply chains, which are almost impossible to trace.
Another factor that lures prescription drug buyers to Mexican pharmacies is the much more relaxed attitude about prescriptions. Many pharmacies south of the border don’t require prescriptions for medications that are only available by prescription in the United States.
There’s a reason for prescriptions—to assure you that a knowledgeable, licensed medical professional who knows your medical history is prescribing a drug that’s appropriate for your particular circumstances.
